The premise of writing consulting is that writing is a social practice. In order to set the tone of a consultation, writing consultants usually contrast consulting with editing: we focus on process over product, content over mechanics, and, to paraphrase Stephen North, writers over writing.

 

My writing consultations are driven by conversation. This allows us to cover more than can fit on the page: what are you hoping to achieve with this project? Where do you encounter obstacles? What are you trying to say – and why? These questions give us an opportunity to reflect on the thinking and experience that contribute to the structure and language of your writing.

 

The goals I have for you? To write with verve, with ingenuity and respect and humor.  To come to your writing fresh and keen. To cultivate writing habits that enrich your life. To deepen the character of your work.
